Your rate isn’t the number on the contract.
It is everything you paid, divided by everything you processed. Two figures off last month’s statement and you have it. No email, no call — the arithmetic happens on this page.
What an effective rate is telling you.
Interchange is the floor. It goes to the bank that issued your customer’s card, it is set by the card networks, and nobody discounts it — not us, not anyone. Everything above the floor is markup, and markup is the only part a switch moves.
Interchange‑plus pricing with a thin markup, or a card mix that is mostly debit. Not much left to win here, and we will tell you so.
A flat or tiered rate with the usual monthly, PCI and statement lines on top. Usually worth a look.
At this level the markup is doing most of the work, and it is normally a handful of line items rather than the headline rate.
Bands are rules of thumb for reading your own statement, not a quote and not a promise about your account. A high‑ticket B2B card mix sits higher than a coffee shop’s for reasons nobody controls.
Three lines do most of the damage.
The tier that moves
Tiered pricing quotes you the qualified rate and bills most of your cards at mid or non‑qualified. You never chose the tier — the card your customer pulled out did.
The monthly stack
Service fee, PCI fee, statement fee, batch fee. Individually small, and on a $48,500 month they can outweigh the entire difference in processing rate.
The non‑compliance fee
Charged every month until a PCI questionnaire is filed. It is avoidable, it is often charged for a year or more, and almost nobody notices it.
What switching actually involves.
Send the statement
All pages, including the back ones with the fee schedule. We mark up every line and send back the same arithmetic you just ran, against your real interchange rather than an estimate.
Application and underwriting
Merchant accounts are subject to approval, and the timing belongs to the sponsoring bank rather than to us. We will tell you where it is sitting rather than promise you a date.
Hardware and first batch
A reprogram if your terminal allows it, otherwise a replacement free with the account. Funding next business day at 7:00 AM, into the same bank account you already use.
The questions that actually come up.
Is the calculator a quote?
No. It uses two figures you enter and our published markup, both of which are exact. The one thing it cannot know is your interchange, which depends on the mix of cards your customers actually use. That is why the form asks for the statement.
Do I have to change my terminal?
Not always. Some terminals can be reprogrammed to a new processor and some are locked to the one that placed them. We check the model and serial before anything is ordered. If you do need new hardware, it comes free with the account.
What about my current contract?
Read it before you sign anything with us, and send it over if you want a second pair of eyes. Some agreements carry an early termination fee and some do not. We would rather tell you to stay put for a few more months than put you into a fee you did not see coming.
What if switching would not save me anything?
Then the email says so. If your effective rate is already near the interchange floor there is nothing for us to win, and telling you otherwise would be a waste of both our time.
Will my deposits be slower?
Funding is next business day, batched by 7:00 AM, into the same account you use now. Nothing about your banking changes.
Who do I call when something goes wrong?
1‑833‑870‑2756, or WhatsApp 1‑773‑788‑3153, or email sales@posnexus.com. You get a dedicated account manager rather than a ticket queue.
